IRS Revokes Charity Status of Hawaii Credit Counseling Service

Hawaii residents searching for debt relief find they have few options when it comes to credit counseling. That list got even smaller when the Internal Revenue Service revoked the tax-exempt status of Hawaii Credit Counseling Service in early 2007.

The revocation of tax-exempt status for Hawaii Credit Counseling Service does not mean that they can no longer assist. What it does indicate, however, is that the organization was not run as an educational charity.

Organizations providing credit and debt counseling services should be operating on your behalf. It is important to make sure that you have verified that the organization is a nonprofit charity, which indicates that they are in compliance with such guidelines at the IRS.

If you need credit and debt counseling assistance, make sure that you are working with an agency that is in good standing. For more information, you may contact one of these nonprofit agencies serving Hawaii.
