    I’ve been reading up on DIY debt settlement and I’ve read in a few instances that I should wait until my account goes to a collection agency and the credit card bank gets the debt written off as as ‘charge off’. I also read that they sell the debt to a 3rd party collector for approx .03-.06 for every $1 of debt.
    With this out of the way, do I try to settle with my credit card company or the 3rd party collector?
    HELP! Please

    Settling with the credit card company before it charges off will keep the collection account from showing up on your credit report. As far as which will give you a better deal, its anyone’s guess.

    Make sure you know all the pros and cons of debt settlement before you decide how to proceed.
